Senior officials at the SLFP headquarters said that the President’s decision not to appoint defeated candidates at the last general election to positions in state institutions has been violated by all other constituent parties in the UPFA, with the exception of the SLFP.

The official said that All Ceylon Muslim Congress leader Minister Rishard Bathiudeen had yesterday violated the Presidential directive by making such an appointment.ndustries and Commerce Minister Bathiudeen had appointed former minister and defeated candidate of the All Ceylon Muslim Congress at the last general election, Ameer Ali, as the head of the National Enterprise Development Agency (NEDA).

Meanwhile, NFF Leader and Minister Wimal Weerawansa has appointed defeated NFF candidate from the Kalutara District at the last elections former parliamentarian Jayantha Samaraweera, as the chairman of the National Housing Development Authority.

The SLFP official said that in such a backdrop, the President’s decision has had an adverse impact on SLFP members who had lost at the elections. He said that Minister Maithripala Sirisena has already agreed to address the issue.
